Earlier this afternoon, school officials were advised of an anonymous bomb threat at East Rutherford Middle School. Upon recommendation of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, and in an abundance of caution, the building was evacuated while law enforcement personnel conducted a sweep of our campus. Law enforcement officials have concluded their exhaustive sweep of the school building and found no evidence of an explosive device or other similar items. They have cleared the building for reentry. We will resume our regular school schedule on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
Because the building was secured by law enforcement personnel at the time of dismissal, students were unable to reenter to collect their belongings. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may have caused, and we appreciate your understanding. All student personal belongings have been secured and will be available for pickup at the beginning of the regular school day on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
Bookbags and personal items belonging to 6th graders will be located in the cafeteria and may be retrieved upon arrival in the morning. Bookbags and personal items belonging to 7th and 8th graders were left in the classroom that they were last in when the building was evacuated. Seventh and 8th graders should go to those classrooms to retrieve their belongings upon arrival in the morning, BEFORE going to homeroom.
We appreciate the students and staff who were incredibly patient and calm throughout the evacuation experience. We are thankful to parents and guardians for your understanding and support during what was a challenging dismissal time today. Thank you to law enforcement personnel for your diligence and thorough attention to ensuring the safety of our students and staff. We are committed to ensuring a safe and orderly school environment for our students and appreciate your support in this endeavor.
