Earlier this afternoon, school officials were advised of an anonymous bomb threat at East Rutherford Middle School. Upon recommendation of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, and in an abundance of caution, the building has been evacuated while law enforcement personnel conduct a sweep of our campus. That sweep is ongoing and will likely continue past our normal dismissal time. Therefore, East Rutherford Middle School will begin dismissing students immediately. Our school buses will begin running their regular routes as soon as they are prepared to depart. Parents and others who will pick up car riders are advised to expect a large volume of traffic and possible delays. Additionally, all practices and after-school activities are canceled this afternoon.
Because the building has been secured by law enforcement personnel, students are unable to reenter to collect their belongings at this time. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause for you and your children, and we appreciate your understanding
We are genuinely grateful for the excellent response from local law enforcement personnel, and for the cooperation of our students this afternoon. At all times, we take all real or perceived risks to school safety very seriously, and we thoroughly investigate them in close coordination with appropriate local law enforcement agencies. We appreciate the trust and confidence you place in us each day, and we are committed to ensuring a safe, orderly school environment for everyone in our school community.
