Weekly Update- May 18-22, 2020

Good Evening, East Rutherford Middle School students and families.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. First of all, I would like to say “Thank you” to all students who have been working hard on their assignments. Our students continue to shine in all areas and I have been very impressed with their hard work and dedication during Remote Learning. The continued work from our students would not be possible without the support of our parents, families and community members. Each day, I am reminded of the amazing support our school has created. Thank you, parents, families and community members for all you do to make ERMS a successful school! Mrs. Pruett, Mrs. Bradley and myself have enjoyed making rounds to recognize students with yard signs who are working hard and staying engaged during remote learning!  Students are encouraged to stay up-to-date with lessons and keep communicating with teachers. We will be visiting more houses in the middle of the week. Check out the pictures on the East Rutherford Middle School Facebook page.

On Monday, May 18th  at  8am, Days 37-45 of our Remote Learning activities will be available for download through Canvas for students to begin the next round of assignments. Please make arrangements on Monday to get to an area with Wi-Fi to have students upload completed assignments and download the new assignments in their Canvas account.  Remember that all RCS parking lots are Wi-Fi Zones. These zones are active 24/7. Please be patient with this process, these are large files and sometimes take time to download to your device. Students do not need WiFi to complete assignments.  They only need WiFi to download and submit assignments back to their teacher.  If you are having issues with this process please call the technical support number or the school any day and we will be glad to assist.

On Tuesday, May 19th from 4:00 - 9:00 stop by Forest City Fish Camp to purchase some yummy fish to go. David Linder, owner of Forest City Fish Camp is offering another ERMS fundraiser for our school on Tuesday night. Call your order in at 828-245-2525. To pick up, walk to the main dining room and read the signs.

On Wednesday, May 19th and May 20th you can stop by the school to pick up your ERMS yearbook or purchase a yearbook for $40.00. You will need to stay in your car and we will come to you. Please enter through the car rider line at the bus parking lot. We will be out at the curb from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday and 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Thursday. If you have any questions about yearbooks please call the school or email Mrs. Greenway at [email protected]

I would also like to give you an update regarding our RCS Remote Food Services. We will not provide food services on Monday, May 25th Memorial Day. We will continue to provide meals daily from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. As you know, the last day of school for students is June 11. However, understanding the need in our community, Rutherford County Schools has made the decision to extend the opportunity for food pick-up through June 30. Unfortunately, we will no longer be able to offer food delivery after June 11. Beginning on June 12, there will be six schools throughout our district that members of our community can visit and continue to pick up meals through June 30. East Rutherford Middle School is one of the six schools. You can also go to Ellenboro Elementary School, Forrest Hunt Elementary School, Harris Elementary School, Mt. Vernon-Ruth Elementary School, and Spindale Elementary for meal pick-up from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. I would also like to remind you that this service is provided to any child ages 0 - 18. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. After June 30 the remote food service program will no longer be offered by Rutherford County Schools in order for us to assess the most current guidance from state and local officials. If we are able to offer this service again to our community, this information will be shared at a later date. You can find this information on the Rutherford County Schools Webpage and other social media sites. The ERMS is also updated with information regarding RCS Food Services.

Have a wonderful evening and know that we love and miss all of our students each day.
